About the night class
As part of the exhibition The Valley by Fabrice Hyber, the Fondation Cartier invites Fabienne Serina-Karsky, education researcher at the Faculté d’Éducation et de Formation of the Institut Catholique de Paris, and Olivier Darné, visual artist and founder of the artistic collective Parti Poétique and ZONE SENSIBLE in Saint-Denis and Arles. Within the exhibition spaces, the two guest speakers discuss the hypotheses proposed by Fabrice Hyber in his paintings before a live audience.
Over the course of this evening, taking inspiration from Hyber’s works like Semis and Paysage biographique de la Vallée, they propose an alternative type of school, combining nature, culture, and food, the subject of Olivier Darné’s artistic project. If school can be understood as a place of life, a space of collective well-being privileging learning and transmission, as defined by Fabienne Serina-Karsky, what are the potentials offered by a dialogue between these new pedagogies and the renewal of agricultural practices? “Can we cultivate the land and the mind at the same time? Tonight’s focus is on permaculture, learning, and the pedagogy of living things.”

Olivier DarnéOlivier Darné has found a medium and a means of potentially interweaving different fields of the language of contemporary creation through the figure of the bee. Artist and founder of the Parti Poétique collective in 2004, he is the collective’s artistic director, and in his own work and transformative practices, questions the relationship between humans and their environment. In the continuity of the Honey Bank project he is currently developing between France, Switzerland, Norway, and the Netherlands, he has created two sites: “Zone Sensible” in Saint-Denis (93) and “REGAINS” in Arles (13). Both are heritage farms dating from the 19th and 17th centuries respectively, with the former in an urban, and the latter, a rural environment. He has transformed both sites into hubs producing both art and food, two spaces for research, production, and creation that structure their programming around the theme: NATURE + CULTURE + FOOD.

Fabienne Serina-KarskyFabienne Serina-Karsky is a lecturer and researcher in the field of education, as well as the vice-dean and director of the Center for Studies and Innovation in the Inclusive Educational Community at the Faculty of Education and Training of the Institut Catholique de Paris. The joint head of the “Ethics and Identities” pole of the Religion, Culture, and Society Research Unit of the ICP, her research focuses on new educational pedagogies and practices, school well-being, and inclusivity within the educational community. She has published numerous articles and books, including Bien-être scolaire. Des clés pour demain in 2019 and Du devenir humain. Une éducation par laquelle l'être humain se forme à être humain in 2022.

This ticket includes access to the evening class on the date chosen when booking, as well as entry to the exhibition that same day from 5pm.
The evening classes are broadcast live on the websites of the Fondation Cartier and *Duuu Radio, before being made available in the form of podcasts.
