Fondation Cartier, a new site for contemporary art

Moving into such an impressive site, in terms of location and history, entails a form of invention. The space is marked by a different way of doing: a way of conceiving how artists can have maximum power of expression.

The bay windows of its future spaces

To mark this anniversary year, the Fondation Cartier is creating an installation to be displayed on the bay windows of its future premises on the Place du Palais-Royal, in Paris, in honor of the artists with whom it has had the pleasure of working throughout its history. Portraits of some thirty artists and personalities, including Jean Nouvel, Agnès Varda, Claudia Andujar, Takeshi Kitano, Patti Smith, Sheroanawe Hakihiiwe, Marie Losier and Ron Mueck, will appear on these 7-metre-high windows, veritable windows on the history of the institution. Reflecting the way in which the Fondation Cartier has developed its programming over the past 40 years, the artists represented in this installation come from all disciplines - from painting to cinema, architecture, music, fashion, photography, philosophy and the performing arts - and from every generation and geography.

Conceived in collaboration with the deValence design studio, the installation will initially be deployed on facades overlooking the Rue de Rivoli and the Rue Saint-Honoré.
