About the publication
The exhibition Les Championnes de César was the result of a rather peculiar partnership between big business and the art world, more specifically between César, the demigod of metal famed for his Compressions, and Peugeot Talbot Sport, who with its 205 Turbo 16 gave the French automobile industry yet another world-class win. To offer four of its “champions” true posterity, Peugeot decided to entrust them to the sculptor, arranging a marriage between state-of-the-art industrial techniques and art in its highest state. The catalog of this exhibition that took place at the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain in 1986 retraces the key stages in this unusual collaboration that turned racing cars into artworks. |
