About the publication
Monique Frydman’s work was initially linked to the human body, lines, and the color black, which she gradually turned away from in favor of color. Her work then followed more of an abstract expressionist path, where she used unprepared linen canvases, light cotton canvases soaked in pastel and pigment. Drawings continued to be present in the fragile form of a charcoal line roaming the space of the canvas before drowning in expansive color. It is in the skillfully mastered synthesis between color and drawing that Monique Frydman’s originality lies. Each painting is an intense pictorial adventure where the intoxication of color and light, the sinuous path of the winding line and the sense of a hidden trace of figuration all inspire contemplation.
In 1991, the exhibition Éphéméride at the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain gave rise to a box set edition jointly published with the Galerie Baudoin Lebon in Paris.
