About the publication
To mark the bicentenary of the French Revolution, the artist Ian Hamilton Finlay presented the exhibition Poursuites révolutionnaires at the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain in 1987. Combining militant polemological aesthetics into his poetic, elegiac oeuvre, Finlay used history as the starting point for thoughts on the situation of contemporary culture. To accompany the exhibition, the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain published a catalog portraying this unusual artistic project in words and images to shed extra light on the fundamentals of this artist’s aesthetics. |
